Kinder Scout

A boggy plateau rising high above the the Peak District national park, famed for the Mass Trespass of 1932. This natural moorland rises to 636 meters (2,087 ft) above sea level and is the highest point in the peak district. On clear days the view can stretch for miles yet when the cloud comes down its easy to get lost amongst this almost featureless peat bog.

What a glorious day.

The hike started in Edale at 0841 and finished at 1415. In my bag I had a litre of water, food, map, compass, and my camera kit.

My camera kit is:

A Cannon EOS 2000D, A Cannon 75 - 300mm lens, A Cannon 18 - 55 mm lens, A Bonfoto B690A tripod and a case of ND filters from K&F Concept. The ND filters are: ND4, ND8, ND64 and a ND1000. I also have a K&F Concept circularising polariser.

It was a hot sunny day which made photography hard in the harsh light however the photographs that I did get are beautiful. Sometimes we cant always be up before sunrise for those glorious golden hour shots so instead we compromise and find different ways to approach our subject.

Take the waterfalls at the bottom of Jacobs Ladder, here I used my ND1000 with a 30 second exposure at F16 and ISO/100 at 95mm. without the filter the light would have made for a much harsher shot.

ISO, aperture and exposure are key to getting photographs that your happy with and I don't always get it right. On this hike out of 90 shots only a handful have I been happy with the rest have excessive camera shake due or are out of focus but that's photography, its a game of trial and error.
